Basically, you add up the digits in the page number and take the final digit from the sum of the three digits and the highest number wins.

Using the numbers from this chapter:

326: 3 + 2 + 6 = 11. The final digit in the sum is 1.
578: 5 + 7 + 8 = 20. The final digit in the sum is 0.

Obviously, 1 beats 0.
