It's the DRM issue. Every bit of friction you add is more easily overcome by tech-savy people and bots than users; the latter of which will at a certain point just turn to said aggregators because it's less of a hassle.

I totally agree. At this point if I order some random stuff online and the site wants me to register I'll just buy it elsewhere.
The more games and stuff that have no place to ask for logins make me register some bs account to play, I just pirate as a big F you.
I've refunded games for using anti-cheat BS keyloggers for no reason as well.

Funny how the more they "protect" themselves the less likely I am to give them my money/time/attention.

"Please accept the terms and conditions of 7532 third parties and have a camera pointed at you so we can check its you to continue..." damn this world.

manga protected with a password, against aggregators.

This ain't it fam 👀
This won't stop aggregators and it'll aggravate a majority of users for having to jump through hoops for permission.

This would do nothing to achieve the stated goal. What prevents someone from an aggregator from just asking the password?

Seriously? His opinion? How the hell will a password stop aggregators from ripping the chapter anyways? They'll just pretend to be a normal reader and ask for the password, if what you're scanlating is even read by anyone

or you need to create an image protection system
I hope you realize that if Amazon can't do this then how are we supposed to

I'd love to do it though, I'd be swimming in dollars

kinda useless of me to add my 2cents now after its been tagged as rejected, but just as others have noted here, restricting access to scanlations won't help anyone, nor will it achieve the intended goal.

plus, i think it goes against the idea of scanlations, which is the free sharing of translated scans.
and the goal of this site should be to help folks access that, not put more barriers before it. there might be some abusers of the system, but that doesn't mean we have to start putting up walls.

mine was a request to put an optional password, if it is not accepted I understand the reason, but I also think that the scanlators are the most penalized.

@phede86 We're not trying to penalize scanlators in any way, we don't want aggregators to be ripping us any more than scanlators do. Hell, we're scanlators ourselves, so it's not like we don't understand the issue. The reality simply is that unless you only make the chapter available to people that you know for a fact will not leak it to aggregators, there's no way to actually prevent it from happening. If your chapters are viewable, they by definition can be ripped, and no amount of goodwill from our or anyone's part is going to magically change this. If you can see it, you can download it, one way or another. You unfortunately can't have your cake and eat it too.

As for the specific suggestion, it doesn't help that we as a platform are - to put it mildly - not excited about the prospect of hosting scanlations that only a tiny fraction of the userbase is allowed to see. And yeah, as soon as a password system like this is up, the groups can simply use it as a paywall by only giving the password to their patrons or whatever. It's not in our interest to support practices like this.

If you really want to protect your scans, then upload them to your own password protected forums or blog. If you upload to a public platform like MD, then you'll have to accept that there are low lives out there who will exploit your work. It's a trade off between getting lots of people to see your release vs not being ripped easily by ad-gregators.

For the record, if there was a straightforward way to prevent ripping while not impacting real users, we would be doing it. And we would have sold such a system to Amazon and be millionaires.
