honestly this was surprisingly mature in how it handled gender and same sex relationships, pretty good for japan. i was worried i was gonna get cucked with aikawa being a girl at the end but nah.

Why is this not tagged shounen ai? He was clearly stated to be a boy the entire time, from the very first chapter. It's no more ambiguous or a "spoiler" that it would be for any other trap manga.
The purpose of tags is to find manga that meet the criteria you're looking for. Ask yourself if it makes any sense whatsoever for someone looking for a trap romance to have a harder time finding this than someone actively trying to AVOID trap romances.
And anyone who arrives at this manga some way other than the search function probably knows what it's about from wherever they heard about it, so even if it were a spoiler it would be pointless to try and hide it.

I too can't understand why there's no shounen-ai tag... Isn't that just counter-productive? This is a trap rom-com, there's no doubt as to Aikawa's gender, that's not a spoiler any more than tagging this as 'romance' would be. The only thing this does is making it quite impossible for people looking for shounen-ai to find this gem.

And since I'm already here... anyone knows of any mangos similar to Prunus Girl? I mean, serious ones.

Dunno why people are so into this. Got 10 chapters deep and it just feels shallow and generic.
Plus the lesbian girl trying to cuck the MC is too annoying to even bother with. Not gonna bother any further but hey, if you like it, more power to ya

Traps kind of point out the uselessness of trying to categorize by gender. This comic seems to purposefully go about making the point that categorizing by gender only works when certain assumptions are made about how males and females behave and clothe themselves, and when those assumptions no longer hold it becomes fruitless.

They say Kizuna "looks like a girl", but I disagree; he dresses like one, certainly, but that is all. The exact same face could and has just as frequently been used for male characters: put on different clothes, and a different haircut and a male cartoon character turns female. Need I remind you that Donald and Daisy Duck have the exact same character model sans clothing?

Take a character like Saito Hiraga — I'm pretty sure one could take that exact same face and body, draw the hair longer, put it into different clothes and it would absolutely become a convincing female character, without altering the actual facial structure or body design — that's what the "gender" of cartoon characters come down to.

There's also Trap Heroine, which should be fun for anyone who liked this, which goes even further into this; it's very meta about trap characters and really goes all out with highlighting just little sense the "gender" of cartoon characters is when one think about it.

What are you on about? These two are different on so many levels.
I did like this one but hated Trap heroine with all of my being, why you ask?
Aikawa is a likable well-built character while Kohinata is a jerk, more than that he's a hypocrite who contradicts himself pretty much each and every chapter, at 1st he's worried about being a nuisance to a rommate and then just goes on scheming some random shit that bothers MC and makes things difficult for everyone involved for no reason.
In Prunus MMC is portrayed of that of a rather confused one, and then page by page he grows to understand and accept himself, and the climax of that is MC accepting Aikawa and His own feelings regardless of what it looks like to someone else.
Core concept is different, even tho it may sound similar.
I'd personally recommend this manga to evevryone out there who likes themself a good romance. And on the other hand I wouldn't recommend Trap Heroine, unless you're solely after that crossdressing theme, period.

A lot of you guys here ask why there's no Shounen Ai tag, I'll answer: it doesn't need one. This manga is not about two dudes going out, it's much more than that, and a lot of straight males would never stumble upon this gem if it had Shounen Ai tag. A close friend of mine, who is a straight male did read it after I recommended it and he said He liked it, and so did say a couple more people who wouldn't normally consider reading this type of manga.
I also think mangaka did overdo with that last chapter, Imo there's no point in it, manga would be complete even w/o it, all it did "confirm" that aikawa is a dude, which wasn't necessary. But that's just my take on the subject.

Feels like the creator trolled us on purpose as even at the end of the manga. We never did get a reveal if Aikawa really is a guy pretending to be a girl or was a girl just pretending to be a boy. While the creator will keep that gender to her grave. At the same time given I have smoked weed? It gives me new meaning and respect for such manga as these works. Doesn't matter if Aikawa's a guy or girl. I'm just glad Mika is happy to be with Aikawa and Aikawa gets what he wants. (Before you guys ask? Yes, I know this series also gets rule34 manga but some are making those because of their what-ifs and not just finding out the clues. ) But yeah hope people understand my comment and where I'm going with this.

Man, I think this is the best bi/pan representation we’re gonna get in manga....Not that I’m complaining though, this was one mf cute manga. This is the kinda “trap” cross dressing I’m here for.

This manga is old enough for it to be a middle school memory but it's still one of my favorite manga I've ever read.

There isn't any mystery tho.
From the start he said he was a guy and the only one he teased about his gender was Maki to get hint at weither or not he was interested.
But when it came to other characters he was frank with his gender.
Even then we had numerous tidbits happening to prove his gender.

At the end it doesn't even matter, if he says he's a guy then he's one. Doesn't even need anymore coverage...

I don't have a problem with that. Have a few homies who are gay and a few are trans in real life. So I understand where the story is heading. Given her next work, later on, focused on the supernatural with vampires. I just assume it's a normal way for Japanese people to question the main theme weather if he was a guy or not. I had fun with the story and was sad they never made an anime out of it.

Maybe it's because I watch too many conspiracy theories about our world and try to put it in manga alone. (Mostly the supernatural kind) Reading a lot of stories about how folks met in real life creatures that shouldn't exist in our world or people that can transform into animals or people of color or gender. It just makes you question things too much.

I might commission fanart of the two main characters and maybe ask an artist to make a comic out of it. I just need to find a job first. After I take my sister to the doctors of course.

Given I have been watching anime all of my life. A lot of times I have to check on a character if they are a girl or a guy in a cute dress. Some anime I watch like Ouran highschool host club has the main chick dress up like a guy while her dad dressed up like a woman due to her mother dying so he had to help her by reminding her that she needs a mother figure in her life.

Some people are sometimes confused with said wording and have to make sure to check twice if Aikawa is a dude or a chick that is trolling with the main hero Mika. (And yes, I have see the scene where Mika saw Aikawa nude by mistake by the private area and let's just say Mika's brain is beyond mixed at this point.

(Before you ask? I know Aikawa is a guy)
