I love the characterization of this rich guy that more or less doesn't give a shit about money, even after leading a destitute life for the last couple of years.

It's a pretty rare concept in real life but it was written in an oddly compelling way. The dude just has a dream. He can't fulfill it himself, but he won't stop dreaming anyway.
