If you edit a post that has either a quoted message or ping, it'll still notify the recipient even if you edit it out.

Are people notified when they are mentioned inside a spoiler tag? Genuine question 🤔

I believe the only time someone doesn't get pinged is if they are in a quotes of a message you are replying to.

No. Original post is the only one that counts. Banana's pointing out that you can 'secret ping' someone by pinging them and then removing them from the post in the first five minutes (so the post doesn't show as edited).
