Hmm. i do wonder why he was so sad.
these monsters... do they also come from future and is in reality just changed pets/animals that are confused like hell? tthen it could explain why he is so sad... perhaps his pet octopus did suddenly die?

then it is rather dark if it is the case.

I really still can’t stand her mom. Looking from tsubura’s view, this is some major bs, man. Same with her friend just being all nonchalant and not even questioning why this is happening when she seems to be the character that would look at/for the smaller details.

Sure tsubura does judo, but how dangerous could these monsters get? And why does the mom just not seem anxious at all about tossing her daughter into apparent danger?

Obviously we don’t know why nobody from “the past” seems to actually see her, or how she is in the past anyway, or why the mom is making money off her daughter’s troubles. Maybe her fights are all predetermined from some bs scroll or something.

My main thing, though, is her mom. Like, if she’s putting her daughter through this, she should at least be backing her a bit more rather than focusing on the product she obtains from tsubura.

I’m sure it’ll be explained but right now it just really irks me

I think the mom rests easily because she's got a lot of recordings and know Tsubura will survive through all of it.
Also the fault lies at Tsubura side too, she's not asking or communicating with her mom and is acting like a defiant teenager. Maybe I haven't gotten that across enough with the translations.
Also it wouldn't surprise me if there's some mind control going on (somewhat similar to that she looks like a shining giant to them but not to herself, and the film crew and others can't understand what she's saying) that makes them not question things properly and making them somewhat non critical and nonchalant about it. Though her mom is said to be a bit eccentric from the start I guess.
And for the rest of the setting, I don't know if it'll be continued being a bit obscure as a joke (meta similar to how you're not really told a lot of things in original tokusatsu movies), or if there's some bigger and more sinister meaning behind it (like that the mother is purposefully sending monsters back in time to make money or something). It's not uncommon for stories like this to have dark turns, honestly it's more the rule than the exception.

Could be that the mom used to go through the same thing as well, something like a only young girls can be magical girls sort of deal which is why she's passing it on. Meanwhile Anna is just giddy from her figurative hero becoming a real hero.

Nah, my friend. It’s a great translation and I could tell that there was some teenage angst, but imo it seems totally understandable to treat her mom like that.
Edit: It also seems like she didn’t show much angst before this situation, so I think it’s genuinely just her being upset with her mom

I guess the author is trying to make it seem like tsubura should feel bad for acting cold to her single mother, but she’s just responding normally, if not better, to a situation like this. She shouldn’t feel bad about being annoyed/upset.

Honestly, I’m sure this manga won’t be that dark and this is all just stuff that shouldn’t be thought about this deeply, but I just can’t overlook it because of how absurd it feels.

lol same. This chapter was my last straw to comment the same stuff with her mom being cryptic and all.

That's not really an excuse for being silent and not reassuring her young daughter who suddenly gets pitted against monsters and what Tsubura only knows is that her mother's profiteering off of her predicament just like what you also thought of. Still, thanks for the translation.

Come to think of it, rereading chapter 1 shows that her mother Akiko forgot Tsubura's birthday and was also even planning to make her work on monster extermination already. Mother said she'll explain later.

Ch 4: She only stated the very basics of what happened: Tsubura went back 50 years, fought a monster, grandpa filmed it, and turned into a work of art. Clear as day? It's as clear as wearing dark sunglasses at night. She then brushed off their conversation that night.

Ch 7: Akiko just dropped the bomb that they were actually poor (kinda doubt it) and Tsubura is now their bread winner (without further explanations again). Tsubura runs away with Anna.

Ch 9: Tsubura somehow accepted her fate and only asked for double allowance :aquadrink:

Ch 11: Akiko admitted they're relying on the books' licensing fees for a living. Makes sense to use your daughter as cash cow

But everything's under the bridge since Tsubura now has Anna as support/sidekick riiiiight? Ha ha...

Without being too spoilerish of the next chapter, we still don't know. My suspicion is that someone's been making fun of him for being into childish stuff (which might explain why he didn't want the super ball, and wanted to go to a haunted house).
