SO. I just caught up to unOrdinary and its giving me this i hate it but i love it vibe... ITS LIKE THE STORY IS SO GOOD. BUT THE MC DEVELOPMENT IS NON EXISTING. The mc just gets trashed more and more as i read more chapters.... then most of all MY SHIP MY SHIP, THERE WAS STILL SHIP FOR WHEN SERA AND JOHN WERE FRIENDS BUT IT SANK AND CRASH WHEN THE AUTHOR MADE JOHN START INSULTING SERA. WHYYY... LIKE IF YOUR GOING TO LEAVE JOHN IN THE FRIENDZONE THEN AT LEAST LET THEM STAY THAT WAY.. THE ONLY REASON I STARTED unORDINARY WAS BECAUSE I THOUGHT THAT JOHN IS DESTROYING THE HIERARCHY FOR SERA... BUT AT THIS POINT ITS THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE... ok, thanks for reading my rant about unOrdinary...

Oh the MC development exists it just goes to the direction that we don’t want it to go. And I can say that because I too am a John stan.

it doesn't become worse, its already the worse it can get. The protagonist is basically the antagonist now at this point...

Honestly I dropped reading almost all the webtoons from the site. The opinions are all very one sided, and even the most popular ones are absolute trash.

In that regard I'm glad that mangadex doesn't have a 'top comment' or upvote system.
It gives more room to discussion.

I abandoned the series somewhere around chapter 90 or so. I know that Remi and the red-haired guy and the blonde guy were still trying to uncover the "secret" of their society and the hierarchy, with Remi being a hero. Somewhere around there.

It just became too stupid. Like, I could go with John going more and more bitter. Character development was fine. It just fundamentally looked like everyone had the basic IQ of a rock. And not even a smart rock too. The dumbest stone that you'd be embarrassed to use as a paperweight. I'm making broad statements, but why is there no actual slavery with low tiers? Why are low tiers allowed to go to school in the first place? Why is miscegenation/interbreeding not legally forbidden between high and low tiers? Why are high tiers bound by laws like no killing low tiers? Why are high tiers bound by laws at all when there's an EXPLICIT worship of high tiers? Why was John's father, an ACTUAL "cripple" allowed to even live when he was actually seen as trash of humanity?

And it seemed like no one in the entire society ever even thought about any of this. It just looked like the author took modern technology and society and said herp derp, strong rules over weak, herp derp, but I'm not going to think about what that actually would look like.

End rant.

I hate it I love it is a good way to describe this series.
No doubt it does not deserve its popularity over some other webtoons on that site, but on its own it’s good.
If you want to read a webtoon similar to this genre but hate unordinary, read Flow by Honey B.

@Allentheotaku thank god I've decided to dropped it. Not even hair gel jokes want me to pick this up again.

It's a shame I like the begining part about the simple story about highschool mutant. Hate it when John become a moody angry spoiled kid ranting without a reason and having a crisis identity at chapter 100++

Dropped it really quick, I don’t even remember at what chapters, but I know ember was already well implied in the story.

i dropped it a while ago, about halfway through what was released at the time,

a little bit after sera lost her powers to that drug stuff and john spent the following 20 chapters being a pissbaby manchild instead of an actual human being, and i havent looked back since
im already not a fan of series where strong characters become vulnerable through some deus ex bullshit like oH bOY i LoSt My PoWeRs (there are >much< better ways to both humanize a monstrous character and provide a relevant foil to the protagonist) but seeing the main character just consistently be a shitty unlikeable person toward someone who just lost their whole life really upset me a lot

i dont know what kind of route the author was trying to take with the story but it felt like they were just actively removing the core parts of the series that were engaging and fun to read, subverting the originally charming and interesting plot into an aimless pile of edgy tropes and overdramatization that ultimately failed to be entertaining or even meaningful enough to retain my interest; and frankly, the sharp turn it took in a completely different direction was jarring enough that i still cant fully vocalize my thoughts without becoming increasingly agitated about it

Along the line it became so repetitive Remi, Blyke and Isen want to do good, John wants to do bad , John insults someone. Stories like unOrdinary and True Beauty started out so well and turned it to repetitve chapters and storylines
