welcome, people

in this thread, I will explain what reactions are, and what people mean when they give you one

let's get started

now, what are reactions, exactly?

well, they were a "new" feature added to the forums you guys know and love today

xtggo5.png

see that like button over there?

well, when you hover over it with your mouse cursor, you get this:

qgy1r5.png

those are the reactions I was talking about

neat, right?

(note: you can't react to your own comments, I screenshotted these on an alt account)

when you receive a reaction, it increases your reaction score, depending on which reaction you get

and you get forum titles based on how many reaction score you have

(if you want to find out more about what forum titles are and how certain reactions effect your reaction score, click here)

but enough about that, you clicked this thread to learn about what people mean when they give you certain reactions, so here they are

Like
9Zj7QGU.png
(credits to @BakedBanana for this and the emoji for the reaction below):
it means they like your post, pretty self-explanatory

Strike
VpmCFrK.png
:
if one person gives it:
it means they hate your post

if several people give it:
it means your post was completely wrong and you should feel ashamed for it

if @Baronoflight gives it:
you're a forum regular now, congrats

This :this:
it either means that your post was objectively correct, or they agree with your post

Funny :pacman:
it means your post was funny, again, pretty self-explanatory

Love :hearts:
if @vmman gives it:
either he actually loves the post, or it's just his way of liking a post without using the like reaction

if anyone else gives it:
it means they like your post so much that they love it

Thinking :thonk:
it means your post was thought-provoking

Confused :questionblob:
I don't even have to say anything, because even a child, no matter how much their mother drank during pregnancy, could understand what this means

Drink :aquadrink:
to quote @Angry_Panda, this means either:
  1. They have been or am in a similar situation and commiserate with your statement.
  2. They begrudgingly concur with your opinion.
  3. Such is life.
  4. Consumption of a beverage is the correct response in this instance.
  5. GET DRUNK WOOOOOOOOO
meguusad :meguuusad:
if anyone else gives it:
it means your post made people cry

if @BakedBanana gives it:
most of the time, it's for the same reason as anyone else, but on rare occasions, he will give this to a post that doesn't really have anything sad in it, and no one knows why

Helpful (💡):
again, a child, no matter how much their mother drank during pregnancy, could understand what this means

Dumb :slap: :
if one person gives it:
they think your post was stupid

if multiple people give it:
your post IS stupid, and you should feel ashamed

Wow :meguupog:
it means that they were impressed by your post

and finally...

Angry :angery: :
self-explanatory

that's all, folks

I don't completely agree with that, so here's my interpretation of what they mean based on a modern audience's point of view:
Like= Let's goooo
Strike= I'm triggered
This= I'm agree with your opinion
Funny= That's hilarious
Love= This is a masterpiece
Thinking= I'm not sure about this
Confused= What are you talkin' about?
Drink= Yeah, whatever
Meguuusad= Laugh till you cry
Helpful= Thanks for telling me
Dumb= You idiot
Wow= I didn't expect this
Angry= Now I'm mad

What’s the general consensus on strikes? When should we use the dumb :slap:, and when should we use a strike
54108464332_f1b8bf656a_o_d.png
? Is there a specific threshold, or can we use whichever we prefer? Are there any repercussions for going on a strike spree?

Edit: As for my own perspective, I generally avoid using strikes, even on comments I disagree with, and use the dumb reaction instead. I feel that strikes carry weight, and if I use them too freely, they’ll lose that impact and become more like Reddit downvotes.

If you really go bananas with the strikes, you will invite comparisons to one or two (possibly banned?) members, which... isn't great. As demonstrated by @NotGary above, some people toss them out pretty freely, while most don't.

Personally, I use the bonk unless I'm really having a hard time not going full-on flame war on someone. I think I can count the strikes I've given on one hand, and have a couple fingers left over.
