I get foreshadowing, but this blunt "I will come to regret this", "they would meet again, but that's another story", etc. is just something I'm not used to reading in western books often.

I was thinking that maybe the harsh publishing environment in Japan might add to them being less subtle about foreshadowing as to not lose readership/keep interest high?
Possibly... This is a "Yes, I am that particular person, here's my memoires, now I'm off" kind of chapter. After all the Mystery of the initial introduction...

Could be that that schlick schlick sound in the background is Axe-kun getting ready for action.
If you haven't read the WN/LN it's always hard to tell whether things like this are Bad Editing, Bad Writing, or the Publisher saying "Stop waffling around and hurry the fuck up! Or Else......"

And honestly... given the amount of time spent to Unveil the Mystery of who MC's companions actually are in the beginning of the story....
At the same pace Hannibal, and whoever the other bloke was would take...2 volumes... to resolve...
If the Sales aren't there.... Publishers may be Bastards, but they're not Made of Money.
This is more or less publishing LOTR per monthly chapter.... with the 30-something pages of Tom Bombadil being done per 2 pages, and the Crossing of the Rivendell Ford taking 6 chapters....
