whats the point of digging that hole if he's just going to stand outside and face the necromancer out in the open?
It doesn't make sense, does it? Yes, their goal is to lure them back, but isn't that the most obvious trap? No one with a brain would even think about entering those tunnels, especially if you were being actively led there. You would have to make them believe that they had an opening somehow. Even then, the dwarves are the only ones with a time limit. There is no reason for the necromancer to take any bait. All he has to do is monitor the dwarves and wait.

So many thoughts.

Firstly, what is that weird floating horseshoe-shaped thing that appears around his neck? It looks utterly ridiculous. I've been wondering that a long while now.

Secondly, I reckon Toshizou IS the one he is going to lose. I mean I reckon he'll be betrayed while he is away. That said, it is also possible for it to be the head dwarf. Both of those could make dramatic sense.

Thirdly, I can't help but wonder if he is ever going to promote Eve to actual wife status. Given the genre, probably not. She'll just gush over him and boxblock any other girls who try to get near him. Probably.

Fourthly, he wasn't actually FROM Japan, was he? The constant references to Japan come across as more than a little forced in that case. Okay, so Toshizou's existence justifies a few of them, but even Toshizou's existence and that sword were a bit contrived in the first place.
I've had the same thoughts. Whatever that apparatus is looks absurd. He has modern knowledge, but his flashbacks have shown what looks like a Renaissance-period home. This is a pretty common trope, though. For some reason, westerners will be portrayed with homes or styles from the Renaissance in anime. The western historical and mythological references are pretty significant here, which is common in fantasy anime. You got Joan of arc and undine the water elemental that was used at one point. I imagine the mc was intended to be a connection between the eastern and western concepts, but it indeed does feel a bit forced. He has incorporated many more eastern ideas than western despite the fact that he's a westerner. The deal with Toshizou was one of those things you really just have to suspend your disbelief for. There was at least an attempt made to rationalize it.

I’m still trying to find out why there’s a tiny picture of Toshizou on Page 21.
It’s not like I could forget what he looks like.

Friend zoning Eve early huh? Hope their relationship progresses eventually and that it isnt just romance-bait. Authors of these types of stories love pulling that bs (with the exception of Realist Hero)

I am almost sure that Joanne was already a bit taller than that when killed, and that she wasn't so submissive.
