Well hello there. Nice morning to you too.
Didn't expect him to fight a big landshark.
And I'm sure the other kid didn't expect he'd obliterate it in one go.

Such is the price of taking Akira's sunrise away from him.

So when does akira actually get good? Instead of relying on alpha. Hes quite literally the worse in the whole cast, and everybody feels it too.
i concur. it does feel kind of bad that he's been getting quite literally the best possible training nobody else has access to through alpha where he experiences fights to the death on a presumably daily basis, is being put through the most dangerous life threatening situations to the point he should have the experience advantage over a lot of other fighters, turns off the aim assist to get better intermittently and yet everybody he meets goes "he doesn't feel strong..." without fail

it's demoralising having a protagonist whose growth is denied at every turn and yet gets glazed by characters so much for things the series essentially confirms as not really being his achievements. katsuya is considered abnormally strong with or without his ai's support (though obviously she differs quite a bit from alpha and her support is shittier) but we've never had any indicator that akira is catching up, even if there's a talent difference i just don't believe he's carried to this degree. like, can we not have a character claim that their intuition about his strength seems to have changed? it's also strange, because compared to the beginning he does actually have a lot more agency in his thought process and comes up with sound strategies without alpha more frequently. if that's included in his vague "strength" he should LAP most of the other teen characters ie. ojou-san, katsuya, this chapter's obnoxious brat

"A gap in skill so vast"
Dude literally just sniped a huge ass target, with aim assist cheat.
Cmiw but it's ambiguous whether or not Akira actually received any support from Alpha beyond the initial notif and maybe the autodrive on the car. He's been growing extremely quickly and
at the end of this arc Akira goes on to solo the true form of one of the bounty monsters that Katsuya team failed to kill completely, without Alpha's help.

The fact that people constantly underestimate Akira has an in universe explanation actually.
Essentially, old world domain conmectors like Akira are constantly projecting their self image onto the people around him, making people see him the way he sees himself. At this point in the story Akira still views himself as weak, therefore people around him also subconsciously underestimate him. The opposite happens with Katsuya, who believes himself to be strong, therefore the people around him overestimate him.

Togami can take this one of two ways. It can open his eyes and he learns to humble oneself. Or it makes him like Katsuaya and unable to acknowledge his own shortcomings and keep being insufferable.
Hopefully the former. It already happened with that other girl from Drancam.
One Katsuya is enough.:shamihuh:

this is a really interesting and satisfying explanation that makes the dichotomy between the two more apparent, but i feel like the lead up to this reveal is kind of agonising to the point where i can't really say it's my favourite plot point despite being a dope bit of worldbuilding. it's just taking too long to get to that point and it keeps being beaten into the reader over and over that it's lowkey pissing me off, i read your other spoiler and it's getting me pretty hyped so fingers crossed we get a good adaptation of it
