In short, she's doing the trial with Katsuya differently because he only has weak connection. Which is why she's creating a local network with Katsuya as the host, then connect to other team member and control them to support Katsuya as efficient as possible.
While in Akira's case, he has strong connection so Alpha does the same as other previous connectors, which is full support on 1 invidual only.

The fact that Akira is scared of Shizuka and had to bring backup because he knows he did something that will piss her off is great.

Yeah, that's what I figured. What's in the lab that Alpha seeks? Why does he want what's in the lab for himself so bad? Fun to speculate. This is a great manga.

My guess? An old world computing center: alpha and beta (and maybe gamma, delta...) are currently running on whatever is left of the old world infrastructure, giving them clear limitations in accessibility and computing power. We have seen multiple times that alpha needed physical access through Akira in order to circumvent security blocks, and now we see that they are competing for computing resources. Having access from a control point may give her access to ALL the leftover net, as well as a considerable boost in computing power. Or maybe they are trying to reconnect with the main AI, of which they are disconnected subroutines...

The other guy is looking for a treasure trove of old world technology, as well as the location of all the other ruins still active.
Or maybe he got a better insight on what Alpha is actually trying to do, and want to rebuild the world WITHOUT the AIs that caused the downfall the first time...

The downfall of the previous inhabitants of the old world were speculated to be a powerful domain connector with mindcontrol ability that made everyone turn themselves off including the user.

So Alpha wants a very high skill ceiling connector who also lacks any significant connections to present people and/or with an extremely strong sense around "contracts", and thus won't balk at executing whatever command she's after. She needs them to do it voluntarily on some level too clearly, she can't simultaneously have a support contract and directly mind control them or something.

the current Alpha handle Akira or the other Alpha handle Katsuya are just one of the so many trial they already did. the voluntarily are most likely because the thing they want to reach need "human" to actually do it. or they already try to have a mind controlled human but still failed.

as for the reason, the title are most likely the reason. tho how and at what price is the mystery.
