i believe it's a typo in the manga, cuz there were parts in the wn (haven't read in a while) where he's counting ammunition specifically for different parts (x shots here, y shots there)

From checking the JP, the 3 bullets left was a mistranslation. The original JP said something along the line of "I only have the time window for 3 shots"

If he doesnt trust anyone, he can just run. Before the bait, he even think he cant defeat 2 hunter. I know that will be a point to build trust but come on point blank shot only wound on the leg. I call that bullsh*t
