Hmm, iirc, Katsuragi was hiring the group from ch 56 during this time. He hired them because they survived the ruin. Then Akira revealed that they had to be saved by Elena and Sara, making Katsuragi mad.
I guess they skipped this.

Alpha vs Beta
I'm currently going through the official LN, and will clarify a bit. Note that some of what I say below is not explicitly stated in LN, but rather is inferred from various interactions:

• Both Alpha and Beta are working towards the same goal, and are manipulating their subjects (Akira and Katsuya) to achieve that goal.
• That goal is likely something very negative for humans in general, since one of Alpha's previous subjects refused to carry it out at the end, and because Alpha is specifically concerned about altruistic inclination in her subject.
• Both Alpha and Beta are subject to laws/restrictions on what they are allowed to do.
• Forming a contract with a subject grants Alpha some benefits, but also places further restrictions on what she is allowed to do with/to Akira.
• Alpha manipulates Akira by suggestions, by hints and by information given and information withheld.
• Beta manipulates Tatsuya by subliminal suggestions. She's essentially using telepathy at a subliminal level, vs Alpha who uses it at a conscious level. (Contract forbids subliminal manipulation of her subject.)
• Tatuya's "charm" also seems to be subliminal manipulation by Beta. (Though how she is able to do this with non-"Old Domain" users is unclear.
• Neither Alpha's nor Beta's control over their subject is absolute. Akira can go against her advice, and Tatsuya can reject her subliminal influence (notably when he jumps down into hole to save Yumina and Airi).
• While Alpha and Beta are working towards the same goal, that does not mean that they cooperate fully with each other. For each of them, their own subject/trial is highest priority. And Alpha is further restrained by her contract.
• Beta's non-contract control over Katsuya is a first. All previous subjects/trials have been done with a contract with the subject. So to a fair degree, her trial with Katsuya can be a success even if Katusya dies/fails, since it would provide data towards using the non-contract approach with other subjects/trials.
• Page 5 is a mistranslation (I think). The concern isn't with the subject's (Katsuya's) identity but with Beta's "identity." I.e. her non-contract approach may pushing the limits on her rules/restrictions too much, and thus cause problems for her. (Or maybe more broadly for Alpha and similar units as well?)
• Katsuya at the train station w Hologram. This had been an attempt by Beta to manipulate Katsuya into attempting something totally irrational -- trying to get answers from the hologram. If Katsuya had not broken from the irrational impulse at the last minute, but instead kept trying to get info from the hologram, then Beta would have activated the hologram to provide help (close the tunnel doors, get info on where Yumina was). If that positive result happened, then it would have confirmed to Katsuya "follow my impulses, no matter how irrational they seem". So this experiment of hers failed. And then she failed again in trying to stop Katsuya from trying to save Yumina and Airi.
• Consequently, in the future beta take a lighter hand, and limit how much she tries to contradict Katsuya's own heroic nature.
• Alpha and train station hologram: Alpha simply commands it to close the doors, which closes off roadway the monsters were using to access that part of ruin. There's no deeper mystery here.

The original story has a lot of mysteries and a lot of subtleties, some of which are lost in manga-ization and some more of which are lost in translation. (Though to be fair, some parts of Beta's subliminal influence are made clearer in the manga than in the LN.)
