@PyroclasticFlow it's possible that humans have existed for far longer in this universe then in real life, and that they've always had a certain level of intelligence. Adam and his children aren't dumb cavemen so it wouldn't really make sense for people to regress over time. The oldest known mythologies only date back 2,700 years, but even in said mythologies both gods and mankind date back to far before the civilizations that created the myths, which makes sense because ancient people would really have no way to know just how long people have been around in relation to the rest of the earth, or how long it took to reach the level of intelligence they had at the time. Though I don't really know where the 7 million number came from exactly, maybe that's just how long humanity has existed in-universe?

I'm sure there are all sorts of ways it would make sense to use the 7 million figure, it just hasn't made sense so far in the manga because they haven't referenced it in the slightest and have instead talked about origin myths, none of which are generally going to be much more than a few thousand years old.
