Sad to see it was ruled a no contest, but it certainly shows how politics are important in terms of who gets pushed into the spotlight and how fight results are ruled.
I do note that while Aoba's poor communication has got fans thinking he was the only one who fouled with an eye poke, Boost is ruling it out because both fighters committed the foul (but honestly the bald dude hated both fighters for their grappling so it's not surprising they're firing shots at both). I'd say the ruling out of the match is still illegal because there's a referee who allowed the match to conclude and declared a winner and even if there's a mistake, the result should still stand. If they were going to overturn the result, it should have been done immediately. (I might be mistaken about how all this works.)
I wonder what Kureishi thinks; he's retiring from MMA, but as far as he's concerned the match and its result was fair.
Y'know between jumping in the ring and trying to blow up social media, swaying the opinion of fans to get Orima to fight him, Kenshin looks pretty pathetic. His perfectly crafted narrative of a rise to #1 hasn't seen ANY stumbles. If Aoba gets the spotlight as the rising star, even as a heel, Kenshin just freaks tf out.
I'd say that Kenshin gets what the job is about; he's trying to get popular sentiment on his side because that will factor in in convincing Orima to accept a match against him. Trash talking is also a staple in fighting to get people hyped.
I wouldn't say he cares much about Aoba, so much as he cares about getting a rematch against Orima and he knows that if he doesn't get it now it may never happen. I mean, Orima might not succeed out of Boost or maybe he'll succeed too much, get bored, and then retire, while Kenshin will still be stuck with Boost for a while. So for Kenshin to get a rematch, he'd have to get out of Boost, follow Orima, climb up the ranks again while hoping that Orima stays active and get that rematch.
Also, he's not a fighter who has padded his resume; I mean, he wants to fight Orima who is really strong as we can see. He has been served the perfect excuse to dodge Orima, coast at the top of Boost with a perfect record, and he's doing everything he can to instead get a fight against an opponent who in past sparring has completely dominated him. At the very least, we can't exactly claim that he's a coward so I really don't think anyone should see him as pathetic for desperately trying to get that fight against Orima.
Kenshin's character is obviously flawed and arrogant, but hey, he's not one dimensional. Besides, if he does fail to get that match, it'll definitely be interesting to see how he reacts. Probably that Aoba will be on his radar then and he'll want that match against him, just to show that Orima was wrong in wanting his last match to be with Aoba.
