I think Kuro would be plenty understandable though? It's a pretty common pet name for animals that are dark in color, much like Shiro is for white colored pets.

What you must mean is ML (Male Lead) who is the male love interest (Likewise, FL is the female lead). Secondary love interests are likewise scalled "2nd ML". There's even a "2nd ML syndrome" where readers often prefer the 2nd ML over the ML. (It's true, you can google).

Obviously ML and FL are terms from a binary way of thinking where theres a protagonist and a love interest. This story 100% works, but it wouldn't work in a story with two equally important love interests (who is the male lead?) or a story with two protagonists who each have their own love interest. Or a story with two gay guys who are both equally the protagonists and the love interests.

But those are complex stories. Most stories (including this one) are very simple: It has a female protagonist and a male lead.
