Bay leaf is actually an umbrella term for leaves from various plants used for culinary purposes due to their aromatic qualities. Laurier is most likely based of Laurus nobilis, the true laurel.
Definitely, since "Laurier" is the French word for Laurel.

Now that it's complete, I've read the entire webnovel so if anybody wants to know anything then I'll answer all questions.
Please tell us everything, what's a rough summary / condensation of what we'd have gotten if this adaptation had gone all the way instead of ending here?

That is a very very complicated question since the series is 40 volumes long and most of them are essentially one-off adventures. Starting from here, basically the next thing to happen is that Hawk meets his master. He's thinking of ways to become a noble to break off his engagement to Sunny, but that can only be done by either gaining great achievements ina a war or defeating an evil dragon, he gets mad and curses the evil dragon out loud for being so strong.

Then that 'evil dragon's' granddaughter hears him as she's flying over the city and kidnaps him. She brings him back to where she and her grandfather, the 'evil dragon' stay and Hawk becomes friends with him and gets taught that magic has no elements and that as long as you use your imagination you can use magic in pretty much whatever way you want.

The volume after that Hawk is doing experiments with Dr. Oakwood, the bear guy, and accidentally tears a hole in space and gets flung into the body of the Hawk of the original timeline after he was banished by Van an his harem. He spends a while trying to figure out how to get back home, but before that he wanders around in the neighboring empire for a little while and accidentally meets the emperor who's piss drunk in an alleyway and saves him from assassins. The emperor gives him a feather which magically marks him as an ally and Hawk learns that he's going to attack their kingdom soon. This is all a couple years into the future.

Finally he enlists the help of that world's Dr. Oakwood and Merlin, the elf principal, to create a portal back to his world. But before he can enter it Van and his harem show up and use their powers to summon the goddess to try and smite him. The goddess is the same for all worlds though, and she's the one who brought Hawk to his world and is really fond of him. She's also a shotacon so she deages him by a few years before sending him back to his world.

After that is pretty much the last storyline based volume. Hawk, using what he knows now, goes to the Empire to try and stop the war. He meets the emperor again, this time still just a prince since he hasn't started a revolution yet, the prince recognizes his magic on Hawk and realizes he's an ally. Hawk tells him about the other world and how he was unhappy after killing the rest of his family, so this time he just puts them in house arrest somewhere far away instead and he and Hawk become friends.

Most are one-off adventures such as Hawk starting a card game company, or solving a murder mystery on a train, but there's some more important ones. One of them he goes to a desert kingdom and in that kingdom he accidentally saves the life of the king's brother who was cursed. Then later he went through some trials in the same country to find one of the two swords created to slay his master. He meets the country's 'goddess' which is essentially just a sacred beast that the goddess left bound to the sword. Hawk breaks the sword and sets the beast free. She's happy to be free, but not so happy that Hawk is the student of the 'evil dragon'.

There's also another important one where Cresson learns his father died and goes back to settle some things in his homeland. After not coming back for a while Hawk and the others go to find him. They do, and it turns out he forgot to bring money for the flight home. His tribe is also bugging him so they decide to have Cresson fight in the tournament for the leader spot again and when he wins and becomes the leader he immediately declares that the beastgirl slave that was in the cage with him back when Hawk picked him up is the new chief and that he was resigning. Afterwards they go to a hotspring where Hawk finds his swordsmanship tutor, and old monkey man who's on the run because he killed the cheating bastard fiancee of his master's daughter.

Then you also have a volume where we learn that the Saintess of the Goddess' Church is actually Olive's ex-girlfriend who he promised to marry. While Olive was off at war, she was kidnapped and brainwashed by the Goddess Church into obeying thier orders in an attempt to make her a saintess aligned with their hardcore misandrist beliefs. Ironic, I know. Hawk and them save her, and Hawk expects Olive to stay and marry her, but he chooses to stay on as Hawk's bodyguard instead.

And finally, probably the last important bit I can remember, Hawk and Eagle are on a business trip to the Empire when they stop by a little beach bar or something and accidentally find his mom. Turns out her killing herself was a lie, Eagle loved her too much to do something like that even when he thought she had cheated on him so he shipped her out to the Empire instead. Using magic Hawk finally confirms that Mary was his daughter all along. Mary decides to stay with her mother instead. It takes a few volumes, but eventually Eagle and his wife make up and get back together.

If you want to know about romance: Hawk doesn't get into a relationship with anyone, Sunny has her engagement to Hawk broken off and gets engaged to another boy, Rosa and Pickles have a great relationship, Vanity Zero is dating Lindow, the evil dragon's granddaughter, Cresson has a pregnancy scare with a prostitute, but with magic it's confirmed not to be his, and Basil is approached by a bandit girl in order to take advantage of him and winds up at the church with no memory left. Mary also starts dating a beastkin boy.

Thanks man, had no clue it'd be 40 volumes long, the manga was okayish but not enough for me to seek out the novel to continue where this left off. That must have taken a while to write out, it's appreciated.
