And now these kids (yes, easy to forget, but they’re that young) are flinging knives at each other in the classroom.
The security and order in that supposed “educational institution” is worse than the city streets.

I guess, the author is trying to make a point that most people there really have lost their marbles because of Liz.

okay so now we have actual proper visual proof that there's brainwashing fuckery going on
we got that early on, when Alicia almost gets killed and his big brother went from worried to mad at her for not liking Liz almost being the cause of her death.
Sorry to burst your bubble smol dude, but Liz is too stupid to think up a plot like that.
It's good that the series is self aware like that.

Novel reader here. The answer to your question is:
The charm spell is very unintentional. The reason why it’s active is because of Liz’s love for Duke. She wants Duke to look at her romantically but Duke doesn’t look at her like that. It takes a confrontation about the charm spell and a direct rejection from Duke to her love confession for her to come to terms. She’ll later stop it herself. As I mentioned in my post earlier, it does give her a rough time after since the people who got affect will all act differently around her. For Example: Alicia’s brothers who were affected go back to their normal selves once the spell is stopped. Liz apologizes to everyone she’s affected, how everyone reacts will vary.
thanks so much!! finally we got some closure on liz! man, if i were one of her followers, i was sure to sue her. i mean, i dont even know what kind of misdeeds i would do to others who had different opinion than liz's, being totally influenced like that. i hate to be jane, that's for sure

p.s. i also would grovel to the floor asking for forgiveness if i were alicia's brothers. that sure was nasty things you spewed and did to your only little sister
The brothers do apologize for their actions after the charm spell issue is solved, not to the level of groveling but they go back to their usual selves.

Alicia already knew her brothers were affected by the charm spell so she forgave them. Alicia honestly was more happy being treated as a villainess. She’s not going to like what people have been setting up for her while she was away in Laval.

Is it going to be a hero's welcome home?

"No, this is wrong! I'm supposed to be the villainess! The villainesssssss!"

The way she says it's for Liz reminds me of modern day issues where activists says it's for X group but they immediately use them as a shield whenever what piece of media they produce ends up sucking

Nah, they basically don't mention it to her when she comes back. Mainly cause the main culprit behind Alicia's possible sainthood is drumroll Duke. He's the one who endorsed her sainthood. Jill commented to Duke that Alicia is going to be upset about it. Also most of the cast who has heard about her villainess talk, they are still generally confused how she views villainesses since in their common sense, she's a very smart and ideal noble, especially how young she still is in the story. Many of them agree that she's practically a saint at this point considering her past actions with the isolated village, giving up an eye to Will so he can see again, taking Jill, a commoner under her wing, basically taking on the villainess role when against Liz to find out what's going on with Liz, the whole Laval investigation, etc.

Her sainthood reveal will probably happen at some point, probably when the King announces it most likely when most of the stuff is solved.

My interpretation of this story is it's basically a lesson on the differences between "niceness" and "kindness" as people often mistake them as the same thing when not all niceness is kind and it's the same vice versa.

i hope more people is going to be aware of the charm-spell that liz intentionally? unintentionally? created. viva logical thinking queen alicia
That's the problem. Nobody can detect any charm spell.

Remember how one of the twins feels like receiving a revelation when Liz say "You are you, not anybody else" to him? Just a dumb sentence but it has such profound effect.

I think Liz unintentionally coat her every action with holy power that affects people conception towards her.

Reminds me of how a lot of people don't see a difference between being polite and being courteous.

I wonder if Alicia has started thinking that it might be something else than just Liz's "charm" power at work... Jane's actions and reasoning seem rather strange, even for that "brainwashing" power
Not really, just seems like regular ol' misdirected anger to me.

There's definitely something influencing events - glossing, smoothing over bumps, there was another Villainess/Heroine duo An Observation Log of My Fiancée Who Calls Herself a Villainess where the "Heroine" didn't even know she was doing it so it's hard to tell if it's deliberate.
