Not sure I agree that the unknown is the source of fear. After all, I'm familisr with venemous snakes and what they can do to me, and that's exactly why I fear them. The unknown is also the source of our feelings of surprise and growth. It's true that some people do fear unknown situations, but that's not the only source of fear or the only result of encountering something unexpected.

@dragonashes the greatest horror stories play exactly with that, the Unknown. Nothing is more terrifying because fear is in the mind. If because you know something it can still be scary, don't you think that The Terminator would be the scariest movie ever? I mean, no horror movie has a villain capable of beating a T-800, and yet, it's no considered a horror movie.
