@HaikenEdge, I recall correctly, it's because since he has only recently started production of black powder, and has a limited amount of saltpeter to begin with, he only has a very limited amount of it available for use in explosives, especially since he is reserving most of it for use in the firearms he is still producing.

@monkey123 aiming is hard. and it makes a visual point that shooting at it is not as effective.
but yes.... aiming for the head would be the smart thing to do.

It's not in the panels, but in the novel, they tried shooting at the head and neck but the two heads and most of the legs just retreated into the shell and kept walking. Most of the legs as in only the feet left outside to walk slowly

Man the manga is doing a really big disservice to the novel here. The scale of the battle between the two is incomparable. Here it's like 2 beasts, they go like oh look demon beasts wow now they're dead. Oh slightly bigger beast, oh look it's dead to.
