God I hate that bitch. She is literally turning into a witch supremacist, and she is gonna make it hell for all the other witches because of it. "God's Chosen" is a good way to make your followers commit atrocities in sound mind, leading to them becoming the very thing the church claims them to be...

no dude no, how would you know shipbuilding? you don't just learn to make everything possible if you have a engineering's degree for fuck sake. what's next? a tank? a jet? a fucking rocket? maybe a nuke to really piss on any credibility the story has?

@Pseudo_Requiem
She die soon.

Along with a lot of the witches who's with her.

Of the whole group that set out (42 in the WN), only 7 survived.

The Leaf, the new elected leader on the assumption that Cara is dead, decided to try their chance with Nightingale's story and head for Border Town, with Leaf going in alone first to ascertain whether Nightingale's story is true.

Not surprisingly, they live quite happily after that.

@Doomer yeah the MC is an idiot for someone who has an engineering degree. It really does feel like a plot device for the author to introduce technology.

@kingminzy ship building is mostly about physics. He just needs to make it large enough for the water displacement to offset the weight. Thats why stupidly large and heavy ships like aircraft carriers can exist.

@WhimsiCat I can't wait to see that.

Do you understand nothing of how a boat floats? 'Too heavy' he says. Have you SEEN an aircraft carrier? They're made entirely out of fucking metal, you trying to tell me that it's lighter than air or something? Then it's loaded up with hundreds of people and tons and tons and tons of jets, tons of fuel. Tons of food and other things. And you know what? They can DRIFT. I'm talking straight up Kansai Drifto. Deja Vu.

@Dantrig : The novel handle it a bit better on that side.
Nothing spoiler-y but I'll put it in spoiler just in case.
The MC just have a vague idea of what to do, in fact just about every major project he starts in Border Town goes through a lot of trial and error to get it right, be it the army's weapons or even just building ships.
Because while he might not have the actual knowledge of something, he can start with the general idea, and use the scientific method to improve upon it.
(and for something, he can cheat through with the power of Witches)

Like, when trying to figure out the mixture of ore to make the best steel, Anna literally had a list of combinations that went into 1000+ samples.

@kayriel @dantrig sorry guys maybe I wasn't clear when I said "heavy" and "sink easily".

Heavy for the witch to use her wind power to move the boat, it is like pushing a floating rock on the water with a gale. Remember when Roland mentioned about using wind and not steam engine yet.

Sink easily because the cement can gradually crumble in contact of water and continuous waves.

Always a pleasure

A shame one stupid leader can have such a catastrophic effect on her followers. Especially since they were one choice away from salvation it seems.

"Sink easily because the cement can gradually crumble in contact of water and continuous waves. "

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concrete_ship

They worked just fine IRL under adverse ocean conditions. Keep in mind that once properly cured, concrete is incredibly durable, and given that we use concrete for sea and ocean construction projects that last for decades I see no basis for concrete "crumbling in contact with water and continuous waves" just because it's in the form of a ship.

This part of the novel really gutted me. It gets so depressing and grim during this short journey of theirs. With how little of them make it out alive, the thought that if they had just listened to Veronica and went to Border Town, that all of those witches would be fine and living a good life, instead of dying to fucking aliens out in the middle of nowhere.

The descriptions of their deaths were also pretty gruesome to the point that it made me honestly uncomfortable. I can't see this art style being able to give off the ABSOLUTE sense of DREAD this part of the novel gave me, but I'm sure it will try its best.
