No matter how many times I read this part, it still hurts so much ;-; Like the moment Onoya notices the pen, my eyes already start watering and it's a flood by the time she has to erase it TAT
By the way, for people wondering why Onoya has to erase it, I think it's because it's physical evidence that shows that she's aware Kaizaki Arata is a subject (which according to the rules, you're not supposed to know or at least have it physically shown that you know). Because she wouldn't need to write it if she knows she'll remember Arata. Even though the experiment "ended", it still is during the experiment and it may skew the data regarding it (and higher ups or other prefecture might not be happy and accuse them as such). Really that's my own two cents on it.

Okay, the whole memory loss thing is stupid and contrived as is, but why did onoya have to erase the writing on her hand? like seriously, the higher ups, management, support and everyone in the company wants the two to remember each other. They keep saying its regrettably impossible, but there are other ways to safeguard their memories write a fucking diary, write them down. But no, on one hand they are desperate for the two to retain memories of each other, and on the other even writing info about the other person so that they might look them up afterwards is not allowed. This completely undermines what is supposed to be a very powerful moment, it turns it into a complete joke.
So true the author just made the whole thing into a joke, I was getting my tissues ready for the upcoming tears just to see onoya erase the writing I actually didn't believe it at first because what was the reasoning behind all of this then? since they all want them to remember each other especially onoya like I would expect that from ryo but from onoya? that's so stupid from the author.
oh man the author likes to blunder huh.

For those wondering about it:

An and Ryo know - they are also under watch on what to do and not to do. There were notes in place in her files that she was suspecting Arata was a subject, so that isn't gonna be like "omg cover blown".

This is more following the rules for the sake of the future, it sets a precedent of letting things slide cause everyone feels bad for them, this time they are in love with each other, but that may not always be the case. Remember too, they are experiments, its been reiterated throughout the whole series, this is an experiment. You have a chance to muddy the results if she took notes to remind herself of things. Their possible remembrance is also part of this experiment. Did she remember on her own or was it cause she left a note. When she finds him to tell him, was that only cause of the note she left herself?

It sucks, but that little note can negate the entire result. If they had the pills to do it, like Ryo and An, that would be different because that too would be part of the experiment to see if it worked or not to begin with, then could do test runs in other places where subjects aren't given them and some are to compare.

Again, I am trying to hammer home this, this is still a scientific experiment and the results really do matter. It sucks, but that is how you get good test results so you know what to expect for the future.
