@KappaBrush Her taking care of her kid (since the Dad
clearly won't after probably raping her I don't see as unreasonable. That sort of behavior typically was a product (and still is a product) of unequal gender powers. The actions of the Emperor are a good example for why royalty's typically not the best idea for power dynamics given how it can get majorly f-ed up. The Empress clearly lacks power in this dynamic, thus creating the harem wars.
As for a Princess or Prince (by definition, the children, "bastard" or otherwise—the issue classically was whether they were "acknowledged by the man—women, again, typically lacked power in the psychopathically minded upper-classes—were of royal blood irrespective of their approval, hence why a "bastard" child might be hidden away at a monastery, in the military, or a secluded estate, or secretly assassinated because they were a threat to the powers) being eligible for ruling outright/being next in line for the crown (as opposed to being recognized as royalty)—this depended upon the culture. Eastern cultures and those with harems (those that practices polygamy) typically had orders of Ascension or had battles between the princes/children based upon who was most favored (hence, the numbers of assassinations in these stories). The crown prince could change, something that seldom happened in western nation's where the eldest son had 1st rights to everything. This wasn't a universal rule, so in a way, R's reaction is reasonable since she (like most women of these harem based cultures) fought for power, and the ultimate power for a woman was solidified when their son became Emperor and they became the Empress Dowager/Dowager Empress/Queen Mother. If the former Empress/first wife held enough power, then the child might be forcibly adopted, but if the mother was improperly treated, the child (typically a son) if not raised to be a psychopath with no over-protection of feelings for their biological parents who they were taken from, might grow up to slay their adopted parent (again, not entirely uncommon, at the very least, common for sure as a trope in these cultures historical comics/novels (evil stepmom = classic trope).
So, R's behavior is reasonable given her station. I wouldn't judge her too harshly if she's lived a survival life with zero power. Definitely gotta stop her from hurting others, but in this case, it looks like guys help breed the monster. Yes, definitely responsible for her behaviors, but she's not the one with power famished to get this royal winky wet. That's the Imperial Fuckhead. All douchebaggery inevitably stems from him & his crew of shitheads. Give women equal power & you lessen or eliminate this kind of bullshit (that, or at least, !make it no longer strictly women behaving like R.).
