imo it doesn't really matter- those who are looking for mangas without care about ratings will find and read those lowly rated (by mangadex) mangas and those who care about the community's ratings will benefit from seeing the ratings. maybe add a function that hides rating from you rather than getting rid of it completely? i personally think it's nice to rate a manga (i do it personally just to remember how i felt about the manga) and see other peoples inputs on a manga!

I don't mind it being removed for I don't care about the ratings but as others have pointed out, removing it will not do us anything better.

OP has his points and I'm not going to deny what he said, actually I agree with most of them. However, there's one thing that I couldn't understand, that does having the rating system on this site or not really have something to do with honoring the authors? Does it mean we should take it seriously and fairly when judging/rating a manga? If that's the case then I'm sorry, it's the community being at fault, not the system. Removing it maybe an option, but it will not solve the root of the problems, just sounds like a temporary solution at best.

Maybe rating should require a review, or reversely they should make reviewing the default system and add rating as optional finishing touch. Don't know whether that will have its own problem, but it sounds like a better compromise than removing it completely.

Oodles amounts of aged but brilliant quality mangas (most of them outshine what we have today) have little to no views because of the rating system.

Now that just not true, for older manga I do believe it's more to the matter of update since older manga nowadays mostly have been completed both in publication and scanlation status, so they no longer being updated which mean you don't really see it in the "recently update" tab hence no one in the homepage will really see it unless they know what they are looking for beforehand

i'm curious do that many read based on rating alone or in combo with others things? I think @ABCsOfLife has it right. I read the stuff I am currently reading. Added stuff mostly comes from the updated list and using the descriptions and a quick scan of the comments if I'm not sure. Stuff that is completed, abandoned or rare updates isn't going to make it into that list so I don't see it. I don't think I've ever looked at the rating when I've started to read a manga. For me crappy descriptions hurt the manga's chance of being read more then anything else when it comes to choosing. I do use a couple other methods but ratings isn't one of them.

This site has 35000+ mangas most rated 7 or above so I find it hard to believe that is driving too many away from a particular manga. Ability to find what you want and having a good idea of whether you will like it probably the biggest problem.

Finally to me reading is about having fun. So however someone finds manga they like, ratings, random selection, recommendations in the manga section or whatever more power to them. I'm don't think md should take away tools. Instead I wish people luck and hope they find stories that they will love.
