I was gonna remark on how good the author was at making Hatano so milquetoast and pitiable in all things "involving a second person's proximity", but then Nanase turned around and was just as bad in a different manner.
So I guess they're made for each other and it's fine (it's not fine they need so much help)

Has anyone here actually met anyone who’s scared of thunder (and is older than the age of 10)?
or is anyone here scared of thunder themselves?
I’ve only ever known little kids to be scared of it so these when this cliche scenes come up I do question it a bit.

Yes, more than one, actually. (Adult) Women are surprisingly afraid of thunder.
Although the ones I knew didn't hide in a box, they did get a bit anxious during storms, and would momentarily "freeze up" each time a loud thunder struck.

Sometimes it can be trauma related. Even when people grow up and are more rational, because of the psychological scar, they can't help but be afraid.

I'm moderately sure that is not what is happening here, but that is a thing that happens, yes.
