I'm actually trying to suss out the age gap; he might be a couple years older, but he's also described as a big dude; they could be roughly equal in age, and reuniting after some time apart. (She's not in any uniform and I didn't see any in a closet or something so they could both be out of high school at this point.)
If it is age gap that's fine too--but it would be neat to see them both be adults in this situation, personally.

I'm intrigued by the divorce; the ex-wife's claims about him in that divorce document do not really square up with the image we're being presented in this chapter. Was there an ulterior motive? Or a freak set of circumstantial misunderstandings that spiraled hard?
Him being so alienated from everyone around him does him no favors of course, and preconceived notions are hell--especially in a place like Japan that cares so much about image and social acceptability.

The setup from there is neat, though. Reuniting with a childhood friend with clear (to the reader) lingering attachment and desire means that he's got an obvious point of happiness on the proverbial horizon. I'm assuming that this will be more mature and less overt comedy (also going by the tags used on MD for further reference), which tells me the divorce proceedings will play a significant role in the story, as they are firmly attached to his character and will require resolution for him to move forward and complete his own arc.

Karen's own story is alluded to in the flashback with bandages on her face; if she had a bad home life as well, then the history of her affection for and attachment to him is very established, and the fact she lives alone in her late grandmother's home means her own parents might end up factoring into the story at some point, too.

Interesting stuff, though. Looking forward to more.

As far as I can tell, they're both adults. She mentioned she works and she probably did so straight out of high school since it's suggested there are issues with her parents and they likely didn't support her beyond that. He probably pursued higher education, got married and a job.

My guess is he's in his late twenties while she's in her early twenties. So there's an age gap, but it's not more than a decade. It does seem that he stopped seeing her before she hit puberty since he has no memories of her not being a kid.

If, for some reason, they ever interacted again, the only thing she should do is walk away and not talk to him because anything else is an admission that she lied for her divorce and talking with him is dangerous since he could record her and it goes against the divorce terms of only communicating via writing. Well maybe she'll interact with him but it'd be stupid.

yeah, i guess the demographic being seinen makes that more of a possibility (shounens usually go straight for the revenge). i at least anticipate that MC's image and self-image will be healed and people in his workplace will come to know that he's not a scary guy.

That's kind of a weird comment but I'm pretty sure she's an adult. Just guessing off of the flashbacks their age gap doesn't seem to be too big and this guy looks like maybe he's in his mid-late twenties also taking into account his "largeness".

He's big, so as someone also big, looking at them as kids, there could easily be no age gap. So if there is one, it is small. Since they are still playing in a secret base, they are probably pre-middle school just based on usual writing tropes in manga, and kids develop fast so the fact he doesn't get annoyed hanging around her all day while playing tells you a lot about how small the gap is.
