Kind of like the premise of this setting. At first I thought it would going to be more regurgitated slop, but turned out kind of interesting.

Can't say this is the first NPC antagonist to get stuck in a death loop reliving his life as a tutorial level baddy, but I don't remember any either off the top of my head...

Which sadly means there will be a whole slew of them before long... In the meantime, I'll enjoy the ride while it lasts.

Though I do question why they used a headshot of Doctor Manhattan on page 14... the art style looked completely outta place.

More than 20 millions deaths...the strangest part is that MC is still somehow sane, I guess the pure white art was he shutting off and just letting it happen.
The meaning of the number of deaths is clear, he somehow experienced one of two things:
1) every possible variation of the turn based battle the game world he is in is following
2) every defeat his character experienced in the game of every player that got to that point, it should match a game with a decent number of copies sold, and if it was something like Final fantasy it would probably be 10 times higher

Honestly I never put thought into those numbers because it always seems like nonsense (same for any streaming-based story; yeah okay your first stream reached millions, got it) but those are both pretty sound theories.

While reincarnation stories are a dime a dozen, the near-ego death scene sold me on this. Even if I think the numbers are silly, that felt existentially horrifying. Imagine going to sleep and dreaming so deeply that you never wake up, at least not as the same person. I also feel as if the butler is far more human than many of his counterparts in manga. Not insofar as cracking jokes—while it’s rare, maids are so often in that comic relief role that it wouldn’t feel particularly fresh. Rather, the tenderness shown when he embraced the MC after the dream struck a nerve with me. Most old man butlers in these sorts of manga hit on the same tropes (“look how much he’s grown”, initially refusing an order then accepting it when the protagonist insists, “when did protagonist-sama get so strong?” , etc.) so one that feels like an individual and not a cardboard cutout makes this compelling.

He cut that tree so hard its diameter shrunk from multiple meters to about 15 centimeters, judging from that firewood.

Based Carlos. Quite an excellent butler.

MC seems like a little shit. The exact sort who would be misunderstood as a villain, I guess.

20 million deaths with turn-based combat is crazy though. If you're going to wear down his character so much, I feel like we should have started after that dream instead of the previous one.
