That's all well and good I guess, we got Raymond's POV and a glimpse into his morality system... but I still remember that remark Xenon (Raymond's attendant) made in chapter 10 while recalling the events behind saving Carynne from assaulters in the back alley: "Did he purposely wait for the young lady to get hurt?"
Raymond's smile back then was a little unsettling, too.
Because, yes, it looked like he took his sweet time coming to her rescue. And back then, he couldn't have suspected her of anything, yet. So... did he have some ulterior motives? Like making sure she's wounded and can't run away this time since his first dramatic entry (with the elephant) went unrecognized?
Still a little bit suspicious.
