Yeah, the idea doctors would give up manual magic in favor of toys because they're "easier" (despite being less effective) is complete nonsense. You might be able to reason why combat-related magic has fallen, but the only stuff like medical technology would be lost is if a massive amount of doctors just up and died during this supposed period of "peace".

right but that's assume that the mc has some direct or indirect contact with them. If you see it as just them "holding onto old ways" then they would be a minority group that's possibly secluded themselves like the Amish.

yeah, it doesn't make sense if your going by need. The need for skilled doctors/medical magic shouldn't go away as long as there's people. The excuse they're using here that the information on the magic was overridden and edited by people who didn't really understand or check their work doesn't really work as well with medicine. With attack magic, they could argue that no one really needed more difficult spells then the simple ones they could put in items so there wouldn't be a focus on checking ones other than those but effective medicine should have never went out of style...

Of course medical knowledge went down. Now that there is no war people no longer get hurt or suffer diseases...
FMC kick was enjoyable though. If anything saves the chapter it would be that as it is rare to see the female counterpart take the spotlight in these situations. Just a shame that the world building is so terrible.
It could've been an immesurable time later and the FMC could easily join the party by being saved after his rebirth, but that wouldn't be anything new or special so i get why author wanted it to be a relatively short period. That being said you just can't have your cake and eat it too. Magic could've gone a different direction instead of just regressing and MC could have had some wonder about these new concepts that he either never considered before or simply didn't have the time to spend on them, instead of this bored of life child-man we have now.
Quite possibly my biggest issue with this could be MC looking bored in every panel, he never gets angry or happy.
Anyway rant over for now and yay FMC.

The idea of losing magic ability over easy to use magic tools is similar to the idea of the loss of skill due to automation or computerisation. We already see some real life examples with some infrastructure relaying on old tech that’s no longer covered in teachings but still utilised.

Or if you want a sci-if example think think warhammer 40k, total technological stagnation due to the introduction of standard template constructors (think super 3D printer)
