Trust me, 200 years is barely enough time to lose anything without a cataclysmic event like some sort of genocide. If you killed all the mages and burnt the books during a crusade, sure. That would have to have been one HELL of a crusade though to do such damage in only 200 years and then be seemingly forgotten.

And it seems plausible from 1800-2000 it take a huge breakthrough in tech. Especially if the science dominate over religion. And dumbing down in 200 years is possible you did see what book author write with error in syntax. Looks like they don't have printing. You can also check school test it's not on the same level than before for Western Countries. Increase success rate but with lower standard.

@mage_goo Abel alone was enough for the 4 other heroes to let live the daughter of the DK, who should be a great threat. That implies he was far above them.
