I'm kind of glad that this chapter showed the MC using his head, and not going for the easy solution. Too many manga would either have him just go ahead and drop that giant water ball on the entire city. Either the day would be saved trivially--washing away the monsters, but somehow not the people--or he would have caused so much damage (played for comedy, in another sudden 180 reversal of tone) that he would be on the hook financially for all repairs. I'm pretty sure that I've seen both of these scenarios played out in other books before.

I agree it is somewhat easy to see him do a water ball and take out all the fires. What happens if the water ball drowns someone or the water knocks down a part of a building, killing someone hiding? For all he knows, the Magic could have been chemicalized to spread faster when water magic is applied to it, but not regular water.

Adventurers care about themselves foremost, and using rare magic willy-nilly is just asking to be kidnapped and sent to a slave trader or killed.

Yeah, like if he dropped a whole huge lake inside the town, that would be huge massacre to properties.
