Regardless of whatever happens in the next chapter, it was a huge asshole move by the author to even suggest the MC was going to let the villain walk away.
The dynamic between the MC and "Terror Man", apparently, is just silly. The villain easily corners the MC on every given turn, while the MC has to die several times just to corner the villain once. And for a while now, the villain has escaped due to the MC's incompetence.
That's just infuriating. The way the story works, makes us expect for the villain's head to roll, and for the MC to survive. The author didn't even try to make us feel sympathy for the villain, he's just proving to us that he's an irredeemable jackass.
This reminds me of Terror Infinity, bloody hell. There's a character there that constantly goes "just as I planned", and everything works out as he wanted in the end. Even if it benefits everyone, that sort of behavior is aggravating and needlessly hostile. It makes you want to have that character dead. It just makes it plain as day that the author really likes this particular character, and will never let it actually die.
