I understand wanting th ereader to have a clear view of the keychains getting entangled together, but it make no sense to happen when both parties have the bag poitning the same direction.
Unless the 2 turned intangible aside the keychains there was no way for that to happen.
The author should made the scene from the center of the pathway, with the bags being on the right shoulders.
