Now I really want to now why they divorced, it seemed like they split pretty amicably from the earlier chapters, but perhaps the father was cheating and the mother said nothing because she wanted to preserve Riri perception of her father
I think they just ran out of love honestly, like the fire of the relationship just slowly burn away and none of them were able to rekindle it. Some of the chapter we got of the dad after the divorce showed that he seems pretty unhappy about how the whole thing ended.

I'm just waiting for author to throw the left hook and meet riri with her dad (who's probably living happily with his new wife and children or something)
Nah, I don't think he remarried, or happy. One of the chapter show him sitting alone in a park and smoking and commenting about how it's "bitter". I think he probably didn't want their marriage to ended like that but it did and now there is no saving it

I'd be surprised if it showed the dad as the problem it would also be melodramatic and cringe. Much prefer the idea of it being a simple falling out of love scenario with the father suffering silently as well since he doesn't seem to see his daughter much.

I guess he's just as lost as Riri (smoking like a chimney, drinking like and old car, etc)

Damn, I knew their talk might get heavy and I thought I was ready when I opened this chapter.

I was not ready. This hit much harder than I expected. :meguuusad:

Hed still be a piece of shit for at least not financially supporting his kid.

That did cross my mind, but figured it would be more of a drama thing

Nah. Fuck that. Better to divorce instead of staying together. You do double the damage when staying together with someone that isn't on the same wavelength as you. It will suck for the child at first but eventually they adapt. You do not want to see parents fight or know of your parents fighting. Children can pick up on it.

The dad is an ass too. That POS abandoned his daughter. We don't have a clue where he is besides the flashbacks

Damn, I feel for the mom. She wanted to raise her with the idea that she can persue whatever she wanted. Worked hard to do it, not even able to see her kid as often thinking she would understand....but having never said anything to her kid about WHY she worked so hard Riri saw it as a necessity and chose to forgo persuing music to also sit and work when her first attempt didn't go well. I cannot imagine how the mom is feeling realizing how simple this could have been avoided had they just...talked.

Props to the mother for working hard with the express purpose of letting Ri-chan live her life as she wants without thinking it's a burden. True selflessness right there.

Pretty sure he said he would pay child support. Idk if it's equal in Japan but normally dad's who pay child support end up in severe poverty and barely able to live and sometimes don't even get to see their kid.

I think you captured it pretty succinctly.

See kiddos, this is why we should just FUCKING TALK, DON'T JUST SHUT YOUR MOUTH.
Tho I know sometimes speaking is not the right decision but still, never let the thought of "I should not talk, it would not be right" be the decisive thought inside your head. You deserved to be heard and they deserved to be able to listen to you
Yep, communication is damn important. However, sometime, you have to understand that it is not easy to communicate in situations like these like you think. We think that it is easy until we’re actually in their situation.

Doesn't really make sense why the mom had to double shift then.

I feel like the mom used her work as a means of escape from reality. She convinced herself that she needed to work more to provide Ri-chan a life where she could do what she wanted. Subconsciously, she was likely avoiding her daughter, who served as a constant reminder of her failures as a mother (she felt that divorcing her husband was the cause of Ri-chan's change, per the last panel).

This is just my opinion. None of it has been explicitly stated yet.
