Right!? I struggled to piece it together too! But here it is:

• His girlfriend is moving.
• He pressured his girlfriend into marrying him by making her miss her (next?) bus.
• He dragged her to a small chapel for a quick wedding.
• She finally got to get on the train and left.
• She divorced him and sent the ring back as a clear sign that they'd never get back together.

Basically, a pushy guy tried to keep his girlfriend from moving away by pressuring her into tying the knot. But his repeated refusal to listen to her drove her away permanently, in all senses of the word.

When she mailed her wedding ring back she made it clear that there was no chance of getting back together.
