The guy definitely is dumb while also impatient and arrogant. He tried to escape asap without any plan, supplies or map, and tried to steal the girl's hair of all things.

I think it was shown that they are speaking dragon language exclusively so they might not even know human language and think it's akin to a dog barking. That and he's so fixated on escaping that he really isn't watching and learning either.

Hell, first thing he tried to do with a taste of freedom was nab some of her hair as a souvenir. But either way, there add me as someone that doubts romance is in the cars in this short series, just cute giant girls messing with an idiot.
