It's really weird on the author's direction for Moka.

Her mother's clone lived Moka's life to 'protect her' instead forcing Moka to not have a life with others. The outer personality gained the love of the mc, then Moka's real personality gets shafted the entire series besides being the tool to fight.

When the protective clone moves on, real Moka copies her mom's personality (excused as souls entwining) to make Tsukune love her.

Then her father tells him that the mother's soul will regrow into the child. So now the mother's soul (outer) rewrites and merges with her daughter.

Thats some real messed up view of 'protection' described in ch 66.

If the 10 month time skip had inner moka not trying to copy 'dead' outer and kind of had both personality traits instead, maybe it will be less messed up in my mind. But as it is, real Moka (inner) seriously got shafted.

Great chapter to break the tension from the final arc, ending the series on a more light-hearted note. Seriously, Issa's death stare almost had me cry-laughing.
And I guess I also finally got my explanation for what happened with him behind the scenes. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I also liked how Ikeda basically pulled a fast one on the readers with the cover. The volume cover had me thinking that Outer Moka would somehow just pop back in for the ending, only for the author to make some color changes in the chapter iteration and jebait everyone. Made me smile.


And I don't think she was trying to copy her mother, to be honest. Rather, she simply loosened up.
In fact, she seemed to be gradually softening up over the course of the series. The more time in the light she got, basically.
Like, remember the chapter where she tried to make that pumpkin pie? The flashback arc too very heavily hinted at her not being innately that cold.
And during most of the final arc, especially after her reunion with Tsukune, she already begun behaving A LOT more like Outer Moka.
Her cold facade was simply a way to protect herself from getting hurt. And after most, if not all of her trust issues were resolved there was simply no longer a reason to remain distant.
I even broached the topic back in chapter 55 myself.

Also, I think the catch with "Outer Moka" is that she was never a truly separate soul to begin with.
She was more like a blank slate that simply used Akasha's dominant personality traits as a template and acted as a buffer to prevent (Inner) Moka from coming in contact with her own tragic past, I guess? Oh and probably to prevent her from accidentally triggering Alucard's awakening with her own awakening as a Shinso. That's kind of a major plot point too, I suppose.
So it was essentially still Moka herself (funnily enough, I also sorta brushed this topic in chapter 59). Also meaning that Akasha simply received her daughter's memories, due to her own connection with the rosary, as opposed to Akasha "possessing" her own daughter.
To quote the relevant conversation from chapter 66, pages 180 and 181:

Moka: Th-the outer one is Mother?

Akasha: Not exactly the same person, but a replica. Even through we were clones, she was the "outer" Moka the moment we separated. But the memories of the time you spent with her are coming back to me with this rosary.

And what's happening now is that the traits Moka developed under the header of "Outer Moka", but were fragmented due to the rosary's destruction, simply begun to merge back into her.
So it's not really a rewrite but more like a restoration.
But yeah, it's a bit confusing indeed.

I'm not going to lie, it's a bummer that Outer Moka was the Mom and died in the end. Though it was established that the mom created outer Moka by using her personality as a base and she had her own experiences that were all connected to Inner Moka's soul. So, It's like they merged in a way, but also like the outer Moka died. The mom had her memories returned so she basically was outer Moka. Inner Moka kind of absorbing parts of outer Moka's personality was supposed to be like a consolation prize by the author like hey she isn't really dead because she didn't exist she was part of inner Moka's soul so technically they are the same person inner and outer. Though I like that Inner Moka started softening up and she is clearly more outgoing and assertive that outer Moka.

All that said I felt less sad knowing that Inner Moka was the real one, but this was by no means the perfect outcome for Tsukune. I think he will fall in love with the True Moka and there were hints of that already happening. I actually hope this doesn't get a continuation ever because I like to think that the harem came together and they shared him. The father hinted that Tsukune was destined to be like him, but not make his mistakes.

In the end, Outer Moka was his first love and that's not something he can let go of easy. I loved this manga and want to think that everything played out relatively happly after the manga's conclusion even with the hinted at fairytale comeback.

This was one of the greatest harem manga's I've read. The only flaw(along with most other Harem manga) is not having an actual harem ending......

Loved this series as a young teen but rereading the ending as an adult and just...hate the ending. No actual harem ending or winner, Inner/Outer Moka got shafted, etc.

This ending is hell, because it teases so much and gives so little. Moka is absolutely adorable and it's a shame we don't get to see more of this side of her. She's playful, dynamic, yet still as sharp and unforgiving as Moka can be. People always misinterpret the ending and are unnerved from it, but I see it as Moka finally being able to express herself after years of dread and suffering under the tragic circumstances of her mother's death. After all, when Moka was unsealed and a little girl, she was just as sweet - and I find it very gratifying to see her finally being able to find that joy in life again.

And again, this ending really doesn't feel like an ending - just the close of another arc, just like the close of Season I with Tsukune visiting his parents. It certainly does feel like this IP has so much more to give... argh.

Moka just got shafted because she only got a single chapter being able to be this expressive and free. It's a shame we didn't have another School festival arc after the events of the Fairy Tale arc to truly give everyone a chance to settle down.

I would argue Moka won the Tsukune-bowl, but the fact the victory isn't sealed with a kiss is always going to be unsatisfying for folks.

so incredibly odd what 😭 i was considering rereading and actually finishing this time but if tsukane isnt even in love with actual moka whats the point? im also not into polygamy harems where they dont go full blown polygamy and not just all the girls love the guy...

i also dont wanna make myself finish if real moka isnt that cold i really liked that aspect of her personality..of course there was room to maneuver around that but i liked how she wasnt the super typical and bubbly fmc...nothing wrong with them i just loved that moka had a different characterization. ah well
