Yea, the ending feels really contrived and forceful. He literally was clear about his wishes as just remaining as friends, resolving that it seems like he never truly loved her romantically, especially considering how much of a bitch she was. And despite that, she forced a kiss on a him (sexual assault) and said she's going to keep gunning for him despite that. If this was a guy who did this to a girl, I think more people would be voicing how disgusting the ending was.
Let's be honest: love is usually temporary, and what comes of it is what matters most. What he said was based on the assumption that she has a boyfriend. Well, everyone makes mistakes and hers wasn't so bad that she can't be forgiven.
“She forced a kiss on him (sexual assault)” factually speaking, yes and “If this was a guy who did this to a girl, I think more people would be voicing how disgusting the ending was.” Probably true, but when you’ve loved and cherished someone for 11 years, you don’t just decide you’re not interested in a relationship. He probably emotionally distanced himself so she wouldn’t suffer from his feelings and so it wouldn’t just drive them apart. These are all just my thoughts, but forcing a kiss after 11 years isn’t something I’d call the police over. She’s taking a risk because he might have really been hurt by it, but it probably just needs some time for the relationship to heal. She let a wedge grow between them for too long and just has to work on herself.
You can understand the girl because he wasn’t in love with anyone else and she’s been in love with him for 11 years. Was that the right thing for her to do? It was already wrong of her to make him think she had a boyfriend and she can only try to win him back. Of course, he might put her in the friend zone or pull away completely.
The reasons he gave for why he didn’t love her and presumably didn’t see her as a girlfriend were, as far as I could tell, all reasons that would apply to a girlfriend as well. You just accept all the bad sides, and you don’t go to the trouble of trying to get together with someone for 11 years if you’re not in love especially when, as it turns out, he couldn’t see her as a girlfriend at all in his long explanation, as if he wanted to put a blindfold over his eyes.
Anyway, my conclusion: the girlfriend really screwed up and needs to change. The guy was so broken that he was willing to give up an 11-year love. Shame on her
