Yeah, this chapter struck me as too implausible. Came across as some weird excuse for the usual "put her in a bunch of costumes"; and so badly explained it made no sense at all (maybe one of the others is the daughter of a fashion designer or a kid model or something? That might possibly make some sense then...)

@feha Kids, or at least little girls, in Japan being so fashionable is apparently a real thing. I remember reading an auto-biographical comic of a woman who taught English in Japan commenting on being surprised at how fashionable all the little girls were. She taught at three different elementary schools, so it wasn't middle school or high school kids she was talking about. The comic is called Let's Speak English by Mary Cagle.

That sounds really familiar so I think I I may have taken a look at that for a bit. Another thing that comes to mind is the thing I read where a male teacher doing the same thing discovered the horrors of the fact that kids in Japan actually do that kancho thing. A lot. If you're a foreigner you're probably a more appealing target to them for standing out a bit too. Guard your anus around the little ones.
