I don’t think it’s cowardice but rather politics. A duke has the highest rank among nobility directly under royalty. Killing a ducal family would bring the nobility to a revolt and might even create a rebellion to overthrow him. He was already on icy water considering the raising of the taxes so killing them would only cause trouble.

It was greatly done by his knight and Rosalinde to stop him and prevent a civil war. That’s the pain of being a king, you have to think of the people and not of what you want to do.

But I’m looking forward to seeing what he’s going to do next chapter, it seems like he has a plan. 😆

auuuuuuugh why is she so weak?! Being held down by 2 men is of course almost impossible to get out of. But those 2 look like lazy noble and she (MC) drawn cart and buckets of water from a well on a daily basis....she can at least put up a good struggle...OR at the very least her feelings!! GOD! her feelings!! it is not "aw sh*t I can't get away"...no it was more on "why is nobody helping poor me"...

even though her attitude is infuriating but it isn't repulsive...yet...and the art is so good.....I'll stick around for now

We always see these sorts of stories set when the nobility were at their worst and most decadent, but it's rare to see good ol' violent French uprising rebellion from the commoners that get oppressed all the time.
Closest example I can think of is Wolf Lord's Lady.

Anyway, this is, as per the genre, more of our heroine getting one-sidedly bullied and having low self-esteem while handsome men aggressively stick up for her. I guess that's just how this story is gonna go with all this.
