As an American, I just can't wrap my head around the idea of having to prove one's innocence. I mean, disproving one negative after another is effectively impossible.

MC: Hello i'm saving all of you
"The seven": HOW DARE YOU

For once in my life i want a manga where the leaders of the world have a IQ higher than room temperature

Thanks for the chapter!
It might be that the world is forcing them to behave this way, bc of forced cutscenes and shit
Also, thanks for your service to this manga and i hope another picks this up. Hope your irl stuff gets resolved in the meantime!

This is uncharted territory for him. He has not practiced speedrunning this section before. So compared to the demon king and all his generals combined, this gathering is more dangerous and fatal.

I hated the goddess for the fact that she took the happy ending away from one of ship dynamics that I always wanted to see: Hero x Priestess. Kinda reminds me a little bit on King's Raid.

Can't he just say "I'm a spy" and let the lie detector ping?

Oooh… wait so doesn’t that mean they are willing to kill their own kin?? (Grandkids, great grandkids etc)
They don't have to kill their descendants to "burn" the world

It's enough to kill just about everybody else

Aren't you being a bit harsh? From their point of view, it makes sense to be suspicious and cautious, even if they're going a bit overboard. Look at the facts:

1 - Fighting the DK army cost them over a million lives. They don't want to attempt it again unless they have a strong hero they can understand and trust.

2 - Hero ran away immediately after being summoned, without the hero sword or any real weapons, returns and claims to have killed two elite four members

3 - A demon invaded the capital very soon after Hero was summoned and ran

4 - One of the elite four is well known to be able to transform into any or even multiple people. Even considering him dying, it's not too farfetched to assume another demon has the same ability and turned in to the hero when he ran.

5 - If he is a spy, like the old man said, it wouldn't be hard to "fake" the proof. It's not like Hero has the bodies.

6 - Nobody saw him actually do it (Daanya and Kiira aren't enough proof themselves (could be tricked/impersonated like Adventure party)

The old man's theory that he ran away and was replaced by a demon spy holds a lot of weight, and is a lot more likely than him almost soloing the strongest monsters in the land completely unarmed. I'd be suspicious as well. And at least they're giving him a lie test, instead of locking him or attacking him outright.

We're just desensitized by years of watching OP isekai protagonists effortlessly steam roll everything, so we find it hard to emphasize with anyone doubting it happening here.
This line of thought is dumb, if he is a demon king spy, why the hell would the 6 most powerful people in the kingdom risk being in the same room as him? It would make a lot more sense to assassinate him in the night if that was the case, or to use proxies at the very least.

And that's ignoring completely the unlikely, but real possibility that he did in fact kill 2 elite four on his own, which makes attacking him in plain sight an even dumber idea, would you really risk angering the guy that can kill an enemy you can't even touch in a timeframe you can't even comprehend?

For being the supposed wise men their risk assessment capabilities seem to fall really short.

Presumption of innocence is far older than the US, it was common among the civilizations of antiquity. The reason it seems recent is that under feudalism the nobility introduced trials by ordeal an other BS that had the accused start from presumed guilt. Interestingly such "trials" were most often not meant to prove innocence by some sort of logical or investigative process, but mostly revolved around having "upstanding people" vouch for you. Of course, that meant people with high social positions, most notably nobles. A commoner's word usually meant very little, unless he was very rich and influential. So unless you had friends in high places, you could pretty much kiss your ass goodbye if accused of something more serious than petty theft - there were no prisons in the medieval world, a town would only have a few cells to hold people short term, until they were scheduled to be executed.

Nah, I get it. As annoying as it is, conservative idiots in charge is kinda just a natural fate for any sort of governing body. They trust their own common sense over the results in front of their eyes, and any facts they see can be twisted to suit their interpretations.
Just because you're leaders doesn't mean you're competent, and just because you're competent doesn't mean you can't have massive blind spots due to fear, personal agendas, and complacency.

All that said, a lie detector kinda makes this work out. They're basically begging him to just tell the truth and utterly destroy their common sense. I say Shachiku gives them one last chance with the following claims before telling them everything and letting their worlds collapse.
  • "I don't know how the other heroes were, but in my old world, we have a way of simulating our journey to take down the Demon King in this world and so I'm actually very well-versed in defeating the Elite Four and Demon King." No black flame.
    • "To that end, the reason I immediately ran off is because I was trying to defeat one of them in a very narrow timeframe of opportunity" No black flame implicitly suggests it's referencing a vulnerbility in the Elite Four even when it's about frame-perfect speedrunning.
  • "I am a spy." Black flame proving this claim false.
  • "I have ill intentions for this world and/or kingdom." Black flame proves this claim false.
  • "My goal is sincerely to defeat the Elite Four and Demon King so this world can be at peace."
  • Optionally, "My methods are confusing and hard to explain in a way that you would understand. Everyone I explained them to suggested I not bother."
And if all that fails...well, they're literally asking for it. Break their understanding of reality as they know it.
