One thing to point out, that get's missed in manga and the anime: Ruri just found a major archaeological site: The lost shrine to the blue dragon! I bet a few archaeologists will want to check that out! It might even be listed as a historical site, which means, no more sapphires!

It reminds me of myself in High School, not thinking of Computer Science as a major, because it was entirely a hobby for me. (My CS teacher pointed out that I could actually just, yk, major in something I liked doing).

I love her development and I hope she continues along a similar path, realizing that just because you don't feel smart enough for something, doesn't mean you aren't.

Exactly!!!! It took a teacher all the way in college to tell me an essay I'd written was good enough I should consider academia to make me realize like. Oh I should take my ability to examine literature/stories seriously (at the time I was running a Junji Ito review blog). And I think I've seen it a lot in my friends in STEM fields.

In that same way, I like that our protagonist isn't ever made fun of or shamed for liking the 'shiny' pretty gem types of rocks/minerals best. I think that love of hers is a little why she doesnt take her own work as 'research'. But I think the comic does a good job of showing her deepening curiosity and expanding appreciation.
