peak? i mean peak. peak? i mean peak. peak? i mean peak.
jokes aside, the art alone makes the manhwa worth a read. The story, on the other hand, isn't as good. Not bad, but not exceptional. This is one of very few stories that has art so aesthetically pleasing that it can negate that fact.
Yeah, when I made that comment, only a handful of chapters were out. I’m up to chapter 20 now, and I’ll keep reading until I catch up (currently at 35).
That said... I’ve gotta be honest---this is fucking ass. I went in expecting something more along the lines of Vinland Saga, where the main character gets forced to work under a sworn enemy and ends up growing both as a killer and as a person. The first few chapters definitely set it up like that. But nope. Without spoiling much, it ends up turning into one of
those stories where the main character becomes the bodyguard of a rich female CEO. And of course---like with all of these stories---there’s romantic tension
between her and the main character. So now we’ve got the ultra-rich love interest trope shoved in, and it’s just… not it.
Even that wouldn’t be so bad if the new direction was actually interesting, but it’s just not. Even if you ignore the fact that they were setting up an entirely different story, take one look at the current plot line and anyone can tell that it's just boring. It feels generic. And the worst part? The orange-haired boss character---easily one of the most unique in both look and personality I’ve seen in recent manhwa---gets written out within barely a dozen chapters. Barely a proper send-off, just a weak two-liner about humanity and he’s gone. He was
FINAL BOSS MATERIAL! And then what? We switch gears into some dry, generic corporate drama and predictable 1v1 encounters? Like,
what?! The amount of wasted potential here is unreal.
