I mean, with how she seemed so focused on doing her own thing, and how much she tried to protect Dion, I imagine it was a case of not being around whenever they actually berated or insulted Dion.

And I forget, but IIRC they said the accident happened during a moment they couldn't do anything to help him because of an ambush or something. And the excuse was only plausible because they did it on an extremely difficult dungeon. They tried to cover as many bases as they could before pulling that shit off, with their only miscalculation being that they couldn't recognize or acknowledge that she only cared about Dion.
