If we going with RPG rules, Shinigami is always placed somewhere in high level enemies to bosses and always classified as undead, basically a monster for this series. With how Gaile treat the undead's living affliction as a curse, yes they can be dispelled.

I was thinking the same. Only a Near-Rincewind experience only annoys Death. A Near-Gaile experience is fatal for the shimigami.

FWIW, we already knew that Gaile farmed Grim Reapers, from back in the cockatrice chapters (15.1). Though, I thought they'd just be a class of monsters, and not just the same poor soul who keeps running into + getting farmed by Gaile, that's pretty funny.

Also I hope this makes the impetus for Gaile's adventure just be "I wanna see this cool super rad cursed artifact!!" while he stumbles into the Empire's situation + the Dark Elves' scheme (by inadvertently handing over all the pieces to them as "quest hand-ins").

Yeah, this is something that's obviously telegraphed, but I don't think that makes it bad. This isn't a big mysterious adventure story full of intrigue and twists, it's a goofy little comedy about a guy bumbling around while not being aware of just how major of an impact he has everywhere.

Not all plot points need to have twists, or be immediately resolved after being introduced.
