Last chapter it was said their punishment in town was only delayed, now it was considered settled and pardoned, so they only had to pay back the debts (which is not a punishment for their misdeeds at all), but those suddenly were announced to be exorbitant enough to require decades of slave labor?

its more than likely the author is setting them up to be like underlings of the actual antagonist of the story like some powerful demon or something that's after the demon lord's artifacts

I hate their entire existence hope they just show us their punishment and be done with them forever

Gotta say, this is the most acceptable end of a partial chapter I've encountered. Normally the split is right in the middle of stuff going on. Here they've just finished dealing with the buffoons, and I'm assuming the beginning of the next part will be a convo about contacting Gaile. (but that would make too much sense, so they'll probably do something illogical instead.)
