Shusuke was living happily with his mother, then cluster fuck happened with Shiika parasite abusing and raping Yuri.

Shusuke was happy at first, but being it a closed community rumours spread fast, bullying happend because stupid kids being stupid kids.

Personally, I blame the society they lived in. They held to the belief that the guilt of one's personal sins is passed onto their offspring. A barbaric practice which has been present since man started walking on two feet. Hadn't those children bullied her relentlessly for something that was out of her control, a trauma she was seriously struggling with, she would've never lashed out and been branded as "that kid". The Nishimis' reputation wouldn't have soured, and Shusuke would've never suffered what he had gone through, with hopes of saving his mother. It's all just one big societal clusterfuck

The boy WAS raped, plain and simple. Not just "raped", it was the actual thing. Yes, he did attempt to steal from the guy, which was wrong, but that doesn't mean what happened afterward wasn't straight up rape either. Two wrongs don't make a right and being wronged doesn't excuse what he did after.

That's not even touching upon the fact that it is assumed the kid was a minor at the time.

I think the rape thing was definitely unnecessary misery porn from the author. If they want to depict him stealing out of desperation and getting the consequences, there's other less traumatic way to depict it. But no, everyone in this manga has to have a shocking tragic backstory. Boy's Abyss all over again, misery for everyone.

No, I'm not blaming the character I'm blaming the author who made the character to have an odd choice of a student working at soapland for money. They set it up that way so character get the tragic backstory.
