Maybe Meneldor's grandmother was talking about one especific god they used to worship in that village, so the translator used the singular form for it.

But i have to wonder if they were worshippers from the same goddess as the protagonist since he does mention her when the grandma says she is leaving to the afterlife.

It's quite interesting those people are living in such a place, in scattered, vulnerable villages if man-eater beasts and demons are numerous. It was mentioned they are criminals, vagabonds, and other such people who don't want to be discovered, but their depiction didn't really support that. That can only mean they were such generations ago, but not anymore. They really should build walls around the villages, though. At least wooden walls if nothing else. Even if they can't make the demons pay for it.

"That's relieving to hear." I doubt this is proper English… I've heard "That's a relief […]" but not that one before. =/

Great chapter, this story has so much potential. Don't know if there are LNs out, but I really hope this series continues strong!

@phil777

That's a legitimate colloquial phrase, e.g "That's good to hear." The proofreader could have also gone with "I see, that's a relief." or "That's reassuring" but his phrase works fine and is grammatically correct.

Hmmm, alright then. I'm not a native speaker, so I'll defer to you.

Wow. Amazingly sincere, especially for an isekai work. I admire the aspiration in playing that straight without relying on gimmicks. The bit with the burned girl(?), A+, and the art supports the story well, very appropriate in style and pacing. I feel like the temptation would have been to spend more time on the fight, but as-is, it keeps the pace up (stretching this over 2 chapters would be too long, I think) while still devoting the majority of the time and attention to focus on the characters.

He's a true paladin. He knows how to roleplay Lawful Good rather well.

I'm pretty sure the title is supposed to be "Burial Rites" instead of "Rights." But good stuff nonetheless.

iirc demons are sentient. A wall won’t keep them out, just slow them down. And only barely. If you can’t really have armed guards at it at all times, it’s kinda pointless imo. Same with wearing armor in a setting where people cut thru armored knights in one slice.

I rechecked and can confirm that the official translation of the light novel uses singular, capitalised G-O single D God at that point too. I guess Miss Marple knew something the rest of us don't again.

“Listen to me, Menel. Meneldor.” Marple raised her voice, her
tone serious. Menel looked up. “God has given you one more
chance.” She smiled slowly. “One last time. Wash your hands of
this wretched way of life.”
Her smile was full of love. I was even reminded of the Echo of
the Earth-Mother Mater I had once seen. She may not be able to
swing a sword or use magic, but I was sure that this person had
something far more amazing and precious than anything I possessed—
such was the power of that smile.
“You may hate God, but God will always love you. Whether
you realize it or not, God is always shining on you, unremitting,
untiring.” Through the silence of the perished village, the voice of
the perished woman carried clearly, whispered like a young child
telling her friend where she’d hidden away her treasures. “Now,
it’s all down to you. All you need to do is see the light.” She
smiled. “Give it a go, and I promise you it’ll all work out.”
Menel was covering his face and weeping silently, his shoulders
shaking.
Practically word for word.

I'm betting Menel's already started hoofing off to the mountain to try to get himself killed.

@Talismaster There's little they can do against a proper demon horde, but at least it would stop random beasts that aren't strong enough to break through or have wings. If it's just a few wandering demons of the soldier class, maybe just a single commander class, a wall might be all they need to not make it worth trying to attack the village. It would also stop regular skeletons, zombies, and other simple undead.

Trying to do something to defend themselves is whole lot better than just hoping nothing bad will ever happen, in a world as dangerous as that. They tried the latter option, and by the looks of it the results were less than outstanding.
