@morichiro he saw his mother burning alive, he panicked and tried to put up the fire but got his hands burned, if you don't remember the mother was burning because she was praying to the goddess she used to serve when she was alive to receive bread so she can feed him, and because the goddess actually loved her like her own child she gave her the bread but still because she was an undead I think she wasn't allowed to pray to the gods so she gets "punished" by burning (can't remember that part clearly). That happened somewhere in the first 10 chapters, if you started reading this when there were only a couple of chapters I guess it's normal to forget.

The actual fuck this is actually really good⁉

It honestly shouldn't be Shounen, but Seinen. Idk, this is a bit weird, it's sort of a middle ground. Mannn the character development is Seinen level... I applaud the author.
